Hello Everyone! I am back, and I wanted to show you some new handmade birthday cards for Black women available for purchase in the Ruthie's Greetings Etsy store ! The 3-pack of birthday cards above say a lot with the fact that the ladies are wearing masks. This pandemic has changed our lives and I wanted to show that in the cards.  Each of  the new birthday cards inspired by natural hair. They are great to get your friend or loved one, especially if they're natural! I'm excited about both of these cards because they are cute and really say what needs to be said through their designs.  Which card(s) do you like best?

African-American,  style greeting cards Hey everyone! If you read my last post, then you know that I've been working on new African-American, handmade greeting cards that will soon be available for purchase in my Etsy shop. The new style or fashion cards featured in this post are stylish and vibrant. The front of the cards feature beautiful, brown figures that are wearing cute dresses and shoes. You can see from the pictures... They are rocking little afros :-) The women figures and features are 2D; they are raised from the paper. All figures and their features were hand drawn and cut. It is a blessing to be back, and working on new designs. My new style cards will be available for purchase in my Etsy shop within the next 2 weeks, God-willing :-) I will keep you all posted! It can be very overwhelming when you are a crafter or craft business owner. Some of us also have full time jobs on top of everything else. Here are some tips that I have found to work. for me. 1. Plan Ahead- It helps me to draw the design and colors that I am thinking, and then move onto the next step. It doesn't matter if you do not know how to draw. The important part is to record your idea. Sometimes you do have those inspirational moments by God where things flow without a plan in sight :-) 2. Have Your Materials Ready- I read this one in the article on http://www.etsy.com/ by Kiawarra called "Work Habits That Work" . She advises that you put out all of your tools and materials that you are going to need before you begin working on your project. I love this tip because it's fustrating when you have to look for an item while you're in the middle of completing an order . This way you can stay focused and keep moving :-) 3. Work Ahead- Start working ...

It's funny to see the hustle and bustle of everyday life, here in the U.S. We have become a society that is always on the go. We check our cellphones, our clocks, and our pace. But,Thanksgiving is a time where we stop and check our blessings :-) I like to thank God for mine everyday.                                                    I am thankful for each and everyday that I was allowed the chance to wake up. I am thankful for growth. I'm thankful for those Thanksgiving Eves that my grandmother "Ruth" stayed up making pies and cakes for the feast the next day. "Keep Praying, Grandma" handmade card This card design was created about 4 years ago when my grandmother Ruth was sick. I was getting ready to go to the hospital when she passed away. So, I hope that this can help someone else's loved one :-) Inside it reads: Keep believing in Him, and you will find the Healing within. Isaiah 53:5 says that 'By His stripes WE are healed''." -When I created this actual card, I had just become interested in using buttons on my cards. I love this design! "Blue Bell Dress" (Birthday) Cards http://www.ruthiesgreetings.com/birthday_2 I was hired to make this card for a friend of a friend who was turning 25 years old. Her favorite color was blue. I chose this design because it was something that was elegant and age appropriate. I used a bluish purple textured card stock for the dress. I think the pattern on the ribbon and the rose is just enough against the plain blue background. This dress pattern has become one of the signature patterns for Ruthie's Greetings . "Brother's B-Day Shirt http://www.ruthiesgreetings.com/birthday I made this card for a woman's brother. His favorite color was red. Origami shirts are great for male cards.So  I thought this was perfect for him! The solid khaki color was a good choice because it matched the polka dots, and made the red stand out. Inside the card, she wanted a message that highlighted her brother's character, but wasn't too long. So, I chose the "a.k.a" characteristics lol. "Winter Girl" Birthday Card Soon to be posted on http://www.ruthiesgreetings.com/ I know it's the summer time lol, but I wanted to highlight this card.  I created this card for a friend's birthday, and she loved it :-) I created this character about three years ago. I decided to finally make it into a card. I was going to use a computer font for the words, but I thought that script writing was the best fit. I will be working on more cards with the "Winter Girl" character. "Birthday Panda" *Soon to be posted on http://www.ruthiesgreetings.com/ This card was a lot of fun to make! I previously created the design with the panda holding the birthday cake, about three years ago. Originally, the birthday cake had yarn on the top to make a pattern representing the icing. I thought it was cool to revisit this idea for this 8 year old son's birthday card. His mom loved it! Puppy Love Birthday" Neopolitan Icecream Inspired ;-) The dog and her features are all raised from the paper. So you can feel the spots, hearts,tongue etc. if you run your hands over it. You gotta love handmade cards! Neo's eyes are a metallic silver color. I woke up one morning with the idea of a Neopolitan icecream dog in my head lol. I sketched the idea several times on paper. Here's what I've come up with! Inside: "My little girl is one year older, One year prettier, And one year smarter. This card was a lot of fun to create. My customer wanted a blue "Missing You" card with a poem on the front. The poem talks about a song that reminds my customer of her love. So, I decided to have a Ruthie's Greetings style character wearing a t-shirt with his nickname spelled on the front and him holding a radio :-)

"Valentine's Day Giraffes (Grandma Ed.) I love this card! It was a lot of work creating it, but it was fun to design. I created this card for a mother and her daughter to give to the daughter's grandmother. When I first began creating cards, I made a card using giraffes. I loved the concept of the design, but felt that I could do better, as far as giving it a more handmade touch. I think that the card above really displays this.
